LOS ANGELES — Megan Thee Stallion has been granted a restraining order against imprisoned rapper Tory Lanez, effective until early 2030.
On Thursday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Bloom approved Megan’s request for a protective order after she alleged that Lanez, currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting her in the feet, has been harassing her through intermediaries.
The order follows a hearing in which Megan’s legal team presented evidence to support extending a temporary restraining order initially granted in November. Judge Bloom determined that the burden of proof had been met, extending the order until January 9, 2030.
Lanez’s attorney, Michael Hayden, opposed the restraining order, arguing that his client’s incarceration eliminates any current or future threat to Megan. Hayden also noted there has been no recent direct contact between Lanez and Megan. Hayden did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Friday.
Megan’s petition cited call logs from the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where Lanez is imprisoned, alleging that he is orchestrating online harassment and spreading false claims, including accusations that evidence in the case—such as the gun and bullet fragments—is missing.
In December 2022, Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted of three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm. His lawyers’ motion for a new trial was denied, and they are appealing his conviction.
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez fired at her feet, shouting for her to dance, as she walked away from an SUV following a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home.
The 29-year-old rapper, already a rising star at the time of the 2020 incident, has since seen her career flourish. She won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2021 and achieved No. 1 hits with “Savage” featuring Beyoncé and her collaboration with Cardi B on “WAP.”
