New Delhi — Popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was seriously injured after being repeatedly stabbed by an intruder at his Mumbai residence on Thursday. However, doctors have confirmed that he is out of danger following surgery.
"Khan has successfully undergone surgery and is currently stable. He is in recovery, and doctors are closely monitoring his condition," said a statement from his team.
The 54-year-old actor suffered injuries to his spine, neck, and hand, but doctors assured the public that he was "on the path to full recovery." The medical team treating him emphasized that he sustained a significant injury to his thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged in his spine. "The knife was removed, and a procedure was performed to repair leaking spinal fluid. Additionally, the plastic surgery team worked on deep wounds on his left hand and neck," explained Dr. Nitin Dange from Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.
The attack occurred early Thursday when Khan tried to prevent an intruder from entering his apartment in the Bandra area, according to police and local media reports. Authorities have identified the attacker and initiated a manhunt, as confirmed by Mumbai Police Deputy Commissioner Dikshit Gedam. "The accused attempted to enter through a fire escape, and it seems to have been a robbery attempt," he stated.
Khan is one of India's most beloved actors, with a career spanning over 70 films and TV series. He is particularly known for his roles in iconic romantic comedies such as Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Netflix's Sacred Games (2018), which was the platform's first Indian production.
Khan hails from the royal Pataudi family, whose legacy dates back to a princely state near New Delhi. His father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, was a celebrated cricketer, while his mother, Sharmila Tagore, is an acclaimed actress in Hindi and Bengali cinema.
Saif Ali Khan is married to fellow Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor, and they are one of the industry's most popular couples. Together, they have two young sons, and Khan also has a daughter, Sara Ali Khan, from a previous marriage.
