Mumbai: Actor Saif Ali Khan, bleeding heavily from six stab wounds, was urgently transported to Lilavati Hospital in an auto-rickshaw by his elder son Ibrahim after a shocking knife attack last night. Ibrahim, aged 23 and also an actor, assisted his father into the rickshaw when he couldn't find a car ready to go. With no time to waste, the two swiftly made their way to the hospital, located about two kilometers from the actor’s Bandra home.
A video captured in the aftermath of the incident shows Saif’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, standing next to the auto-rickshaw and speaking to the household staff.
The 54-year-old actor sustained six stab wounds, one of which was near his spine, during a confrontation with an intruder at his residence late the previous night. He underwent surgery and is now out of danger, according to his team, who also confirmed that the rest of the family is safe.
Authorities have stated that the investigation indicates the intruder entered Saif Ali Khan’s house with the intent to rob him.
CCTV footage from the premises did not show any activity within two hours leading up to the attack, suggesting that the assailant had entered the building earlier and was lying in wait. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attacker, who fled after stabbing the actor.
Sources have indicated that the attacker may have connections to one of the house staff, who might have facilitated his entry into the actor’s home. This staff member is currently being questioned as Mumbai Police investigates the disturbing assault in one of the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the film industry, with actor Pooja Bhatt expressing her concern over safety, stating she has never felt so unsafe, and urging Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to increase police presence in Bandra.
In the wake of the attack, the opposition has harshly criticized the NDA government, questioning how safe the general public can be if even celebrities are targeted in this manner.
