He was welcomed at Cairo International Airport by Mohamed Shimi, the Minister of the Public Business Sector of Egypt, according to the Chief Adviser's press office.
Following his arrival, Professor Yunus held a brief meeting with the minister.
Professor Yunus departed from Dhaka for Cairo last night as part of a two-day state visit to attend the D-8 Summit, which is scheduled for December 19. His flight, operated by Emirates Airlines, took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:20 AM, as confirmed by the Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
The summit is being held under the theme "Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow's Economy."
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (Developing-8), founded in 1997, promotes development cooperation among its member countries. These include Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey—countries that together account for approximately 14 percent of the global population.
