At last week’s Senior Bowl, Browns General Manager Andrew Berry reiterated that he has no intention of trading Myles Garrett, the 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year.

However, Garrett’s desire to play elsewhere has now been made public.

On Monday, Garrett issued a statement to several reporters formally requesting a trade from the Browns.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, my ultimate goal was always to win a Super Bowl — and that ambition drives me more than ever today,” Garrett’s statement reads. “My love for Northeast Ohio and the Cleveland Browns’ incredible fanbase has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have helped shape me into the man I am today.

“While I’ve cherished calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages drives me forward. The goal has never been just to transition from Cleveland to Canton; it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns.”

Garrett’s statement is a direct response to Berry’s earlier remarks, where the GM expressed the organization’s vision of Garrett going straight from Cleveland to the Hall of Fame in Canton.

The 2017 No. 1 overall pick, Garrett is a four-time first-team All-Pro and one of the greatest players in Browns history. With 102.5 career sacks, Garrett made history in 2024 as the first player to record 14 or more sacks in four consecutive seasons.

Despite the Browns finishing with a 3-14 record, Garrett led the league with 22 tackles for loss and added 28 quarterback hits.

Garrett has two years remaining on his contract, which would create significant cap implications for Cleveland if traded.

Although Berry and the Browns have shown no interest in parting with Garrett, this trade request will likely prompt offers for the star edge rusher.
