Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, and Phish Among 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

NEW YORK — The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2025 nominees, featuring a diverse lineup of legendary artists. Among the 14 performers up for induction are Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Phish, and two sets of famously feuding brothers who have recently reunited—Oasis and the Black Crowes.

Also making the list are Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Soundgarden, and the White Stripes.

For eight of the nominees—Bad Company, the Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, OutKast, and Phish—this marks their first time on the ballot.

Both Carey and Checker have left lasting marks on music history. Carey boasts 19 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, while Checker’s “The Twist” and “Let’s Twist Again” remain two of the most iconic songs in rock ’n’ roll history.

Oasis, one of the defining British bands of the 1990s, gained worldwide fame with anthems like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” propelled by the electric dynamic between guitarist-songwriter Noel Gallagher and his brother, frontman Liam Gallagher. Their American counterparts, the Black Crowes, made their mark with a blend of Southern rock, blues, and ’70s harmonies, launching their career with the hit album Shake Your Money Maker. For years, siblings Chris and Rich Robinson were estranged before coming back together.

Lauper, a pop icon of the 1980s, delivered hits such as “Time After Time” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” before earning a Tony Award for her work on Kinky Boots. OutKast, the groundbreaking hip-hop duo of André 3000 and Big Boi, have six Grammy Awards and are known for their genre-defying sound.

The final list of inductees will be revealed in late April, alongside honorees in three special categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.

To qualify for nomination, artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years ago. More than 1,200 artists, historians, and industry professionals will cast their votes, considering factors such as influence on other musicians, career longevity, body of work, and stylistic innovation.

The 2025 induction ceremony will take place this fall in Los Angeles.
