"This is truly a tragic situation, and circumstances continue to evolve," said Greg Jones, chief of police in New Albany, Ohio.
A manhunt is underway after a shooting at an Ohio warehouse left one person dead and five others injured, police said early Wednesday.
New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones stated in a news conference that authorities have identified a person of interest and are actively working to locate and apprehend them.
The large warehouse, which operates overnight, had approximately 150 workers on site at the time. They were evacuated to a neighboring building, with many unaware of the incident until then, Jones said.
He noted that police have information on the suspect’s whereabouts, but efforts to take them into custody are ongoing. The attack appears to have been targeted, though Jones did not confirm whether the suspect was a current or former employee.
The five injured individuals were transported to a local hospital, though their conditions remain undisclosed. Authorities are still in the process of notifying the families of those affected.
“This is something we hope never happens in our community, but we prepare for it,” Jones said. “It’s a tragic and fluid situation, and the investigation has only just begun.”
According to NBC affiliate WCMH of Columbus, the warehouse where the shooting occurred manufactures cosmetics for LBrand stores, as reported by the New Albany Chamber of Commerce.
