| A celebrity's private jet crashed into a parked plane on the runway, killing one person |
A private jet owned by Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil crashed in Scottsdale, Arizona, during landing, resulting in one fatality. Neil was not on board at the time.
The Learjet 35A veered off the runway at Scottsdale Airport on Monday and collided with a parked Gulfstream G200 jet. According to Worrick Robinson IV, Neil's legal representative, the aircraft was carrying two pilots and two passengers.
Dave Folio, a public information officer for Scottsdale’s Fire Department, stated in a press conference that five people were affected by the crash. One person was killed, two were transported to local trauma centers, and one to a local hospital. No further details were provided about the fifth individual.
Kelli Kuester, the airport’s aviation planning and outreach coordinator, said the plane was arriving from Austin, Texas, and that preliminary reports suggest the left main landing gear failed upon touchdown, leading to the accident.
Lisa Borowsky, the mayor of Scottsdale, confirmed in a statement that at least one person had died.
In a now-deleted social media post cited by Forbes, Mötley Crüe stated that one of the pilots had been killed and that the band planned to support the pilot’s family. The post also mentioned that Neil’s girlfriend and her friend were on board and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. The Scottsdale Airport runway remained closed for several hours following the incident.
The crash comes amid a series of recent aviation accidents.
Last month, an American Airlines flight collided with a helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., killing 67 people, including 64 passengers. Days later, a medical transport jet carrying six people crashed in Philadelphia shortly after takeoff, with no survivors. Earlier this month, a Bering Air flight in Alaska crashed with 10 people on board, also resulting in no survivors.
