Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert made an unfortunate mark in NFL history on Saturday.

After throwing just three interceptions during the regular season, Herbert had four costly picks in the Chargers’ 32-12 loss to the Texans. This made him the first quarterback with at least 200 regular-season pass attempts to throw more interceptions in a playoff game than in an entire regular season. Speaking to reporters after the game, Herbert took responsibility for the turnovers.

“I let the team down,” Herbert said via the team’s website. “You can’t turn over the ball like that and expect to win. I put the team in a tough position with four turnovers. The defense hung tough, got some turnovers, and gave us opportunities. I just have to be better.”

While other Chargers players highlighted issues with protecting Herbert throughout the game, the spotlight inevitably falls on the quarterback in today’s NFL. Missed opportunities to build a significant early lead ultimately left the team relying too heavily on Herbert, and his struggles proved pivotal.

The loss also underscores Herbert's playoff challenges, as he has now underperformed in both of his postseason appearances. Breaking through that barrier remains the next significant milestone in his quest to establish himself among the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.
