Here’s a rewritten version of the text:

DJ Unk, best known for his iconic snap-era hits like "2 Step" and "Walk It Out," passed away on Friday at the age of 43. The announcement was made by Korey "Big Oomp" Roberson in a statement. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Born Anthony Platt, the Atlanta-based DJ and rapper signed with the renowned Big Oomp Records in 2000. His 2006 debut album, Beat’n Down Yo Block, peaked at No. 21 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop chart, cementing his place in the music industry. Two years later, he released his sophomore project, Second Season.

In 2009, DJ Unk experienced a health scare when he was hospitalized following a heart attack.

“DJ Unk was not just a legendary DJ, rapper, and producer, but a true cornerstone of our label. The global impact he left will be cherished forever,” Roberson said in a statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Hits like ‘Walk It Out’ and ‘2 Step’ have made an indelible mark on the industry. His legacy will continue to inspire artists, DJs, and fans for generations. His energy, creativity, and dedication to the craft will never be forgotten.”

DJ Unk's passing is the latest loss for Atlanta’s vibrant hip-hop scene. Last month, rapper OG Maco died at 32 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In September, Rich Homie Quan passed away at 34 due to an accidental drug overdose, and in April 2024, Organized Noize producer Rico Wade succumbed to heart failure at 52.

Fans took to social media to mourn DJ Unk and celebrate his contributions to music:

“DJ Unk blessed all the street dancers during the snap era, showcasing Atlanta’s culture on a global stage,” wrote one user.

Another added, “The snap era wouldn’t have been the same without DJ Unk. Tracks like ‘Walk It Out’ and ‘2 Step’ defined a moment in music history. Rest in peace.”

His wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, shared an emotional post on Facebook: “Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband, and my kids lost their father. Our lives will never be the same. I love you, Anthony, forever.”

(Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Big Oomp’s last name. It is Korey “Big Oomp” Roberson.)
