A Cybertruck in a Tesla showroom in New York City, on July 5, 2024.The recall affects certain 2024 Cybertruck models, as well as 2017-2025 Model 3 and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the tire pressure warning light may not stay illuminated between driving cycles, failing to alert drivers about low tire pressure.
The NHTSA's safety recall report, issued on Tuesday, highlights the risk of driving with improperly inflated tires, which can increase the likelihood of a crash.
Around 694,000 vehicles are impacted by this issue. Tesla has addressed the problem by releasing a free over-the-air software update.
Tesla owners will receive notification letters by February 15, 2025.
This recall is not Tesla's first this year. The Cybertruck alone has been recalled seven times in 2024. Last month, a recall involved a "fault in the drive inverter," which could result in a loss of drive power to the wheels, affecting around 2,400 vehicles. Tesla plans to replace the drive inverters free of charge. Earlier in July, the company recalled more than 1.8 million vehicles due to reports of hoods unintentionally popping open.
