The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the first half of Super Bowl LIX, heading into halftime with a commanding 24-0 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes struggled, throwing two first-half interceptions, including a pick-six to Cooper DeJean, while the Chiefs managed just 23 total yards on 20 plays.
Jalen Hurts was sharp, completing 11 of 15 passes for 123 yards, a touchdown to A.J. Brown, and one interception. However, the Eagles’ ground game found little success, with Saquon Barkley rushing for only 31 yards on 12 carries as Philadelphia averaged 2.7 yards per attempt.
Hurts made history in the second half, setting a new Super Bowl rushing record for a quarterback with 72 yards, surpassing his own previous record of 70 yards from Super Bowl LVII.
As the third quarter ended, the Eagles maintained control with a 34-6 lead. Barkley continued to be a focal point of Philadelphia’s offense despite a tough day on the ground, totaling 47 rushing yards and 29 receiving yards on 23 touches. The Eagles stuck to an old-school approach, methodically wearing down the Chiefs as they closed in on the Lombardi Trophy.
