Chris Wood continued his impressive scoring season as Nottingham Forest thumped Brighton. |
Nottingham Forest demolished Brighton 7-0 in a dominant Premier League performance at the City Ground on Saturday, with striker Chris Wood netting a hat-trick. The emphatic victory marked a strong response to their 5-0 defeat at Bournemouth last week.
Forest remain third in the table with 47 points from 24 games, strengthening their grip on a top-four spot and a potential Champions League place next season, while Brighton sit ninth with 34 points.
The scoring began in the 12th minute when Brighton captain Lewis Dunk inadvertently turned Morgan Gibbs-White’s low cross into his own net. Gibbs-White then doubled Forest’s advantage in the 25th minute with a glancing header from Anthony Elanga’s corner.
Wood opened his account seven minutes later, heading home an Elanga cross while unmarked. The New Zealand striker added his second in the 64th minute, tapping in another Elanga delivery from close range. Five minutes later, he completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after Tariq Lamptey fouled Gibbs-White in the box.
Neco Williams made it six in the 89th minute before Jota Silva capped off the rout with a low strike in stoppage time.
