‘Twin Peaks’ Actress Mädchen Amick Honors David Lynch: "My Guiding Light"

Following the unexpected passing of David Lynch, his legacy endures through his remarkable work and the people fortunate enough to have known him.

Mädchen Amick, who portrayed waitress Shelly Johnson in Lynch's iconic ABC series Twin Peaks, honored the creator of the show with a heartfelt statement after his death at 78. "It's difficult to find the right words to express the loss of not only a brilliant genius but, more importantly, a genuinely wonderful person," she shared. "David Lynch was my mentor—how lucky was I? He was also my dear friend, always there for a spontaneous check-in or life-changing advice."

Amick continued, "He was my guiding star. He saw me grow up, watched me become a mother, and supported me when I took on the role of director. I will cherish the long conversations we shared in his home on the hill. We laughed, we cried, and we stayed inspired. I will miss you, David, and I’ll see you on the other side." She concluded the tribute with, "Your Madgekin."

After Twin Peaks concluded in 1991, Amick reprised her role in the 1992 prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and in the 2017 Showtime revival Twin Peaks: The Return. Lynch’s family announced his passing on Thursday after his battle with emphysema. Sources revealed that he had been forced to leave his home due to the Sunset Fire and soon after experienced a rapid decline in health.

In their statement, Lynch's family expressed, "It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We ask for privacy at this time. There’s now a huge void in the world with his absence. But, as he would often say, 'Keep your eye on the donut, not the hole.' It’s a beautiful day, with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way."
