Baena, the director of Life After Beth and co-writer of I Heart Huckabees, passed away on Friday at the age of 47.
Actor Aubrey Plaza shared a statement on Monday following the death of her husband, writer and director Jeff Baena.
Plaza described his passing as “an unimaginable tragedy” in a message issued on behalf of their family.
“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support. Please respect our privacy during this time,” the statement read.
Baena, known for directing Life After Beth and co-writing I Heart Huckabees, passed away on Friday by suicide, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County medical examiner. He was 47 years old.
Baena and Plaza, 40, were married in 2021 and had collaborated on several projects, including the 2014 film Life After Beth, in which Plaza starred.
The Sundance Film Festival also paid tribute to Baena on X, offering “our heartfelt thanks to Jeff Baena for sharing his stories and contributing to the lasting memories we’ve built together.” They added, “Jeff, we’ll miss your wit, humor, and daring vision. Rest in peace, friend.”
