Prosecutors have brought a seventh murder charge against the New York City architect, who is now officially accused of murdering Valerie Mack, who disappeared in 2000.
Prosecutors filed an additional murder charge on Tuesday against Rex Heuermann, the man accused of being the Gilgo Beach serial killer, raising the number of alleged victims to seven— all women who were killed near New York City.
According to court documents, a hair connected to either Heuermann’s estranged wife or daughter was discovered near the left wrist of 24-year-old Valerie Mack, whose skeletal remains were found in November 2000. Heuermann’s daughter would have been 4 years old at the time of Mack’s death, and his ex-wife is not considered a suspect in any of the killings.
Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the murder of six other women whose remains were located along the southern shore of Long Island.
The new charge accuses him of murdering Mack, who had previously worked as an escort before her remains were discovered. This development follows previous charges brought by Suffolk County prosecutors, who have already accused Heuermann of killing Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, and Jessica Taylor.
