HONOLULU (Island News) – The families of the two pilots involved in the fatal Kamaka Air crash near Daniel K. Inouye International Airport have confirmed their identities.
One of the pilots was identified as 22-year-old Hiram deFries by his family. DeFries, a 2020 Punahou School graduate, was from the Hawaiian homestead in Papakolea and was in the process of training to obtain his pilot's license.
The other pilot has been identified as Preston Kaluhiwa, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools. The families of both men are mourning this devastating loss following the tragic crash this afternoon.
Outside the Kamaka Air offices, the sound of grief could be heard as family and friends arrived and departed from the now-closed facility. Additional details regarding the incident will be shared as they become available.
