BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has returned to his residence in Gulshan after approximately two hours of medical treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Savar Cantonment.
Fakhrul arrived home around 2 pm, confirmed AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the BNP Standing Committee.
"The secretary general has just reached his home. By the grace of Allah, he is fine now and taking rest," Zahid said, adding that Fakhrul underwent several medical tests at CMH, all of which returned satisfactory results. After the doctors reviewed the findings, he was discharged.
Zahid explained that Fakhrul had been among thousands of party leaders and activists paying homage to the martyrs on Victory Day. “The crowd was extraordinarily large. While paying his respects, he was set to brief the media when he fell ill amid the crowd,” Zahid said.
He added, “He sat on the ground, and Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, former MP Dewan Salahuddin Babu, and I quickly supported him and brought him to CMH. Thanks to Allah, specialists from the commandant, cardiology, medicine, and ICU departments began his treatment right away and conducted necessary tests.”
Fakhrul had arrived in Savar around 10:15 am to join party members and leaders in paying tributes on Victory Day. During his attempt to address the media following the ceremony, an uproar broke out among the gathered crowd, which led to his health worsening.
Following his illness, he was swiftly transported to CMH for treatment. Maj Gen Moin Khan, the Ninth Infantry Division GOC, visited the hospital to inquire about his condition and treatment.
